For setting Notes up once, so the editor is only your notes.
The first line is the name. Whatever you put on line one of a note — with or without a leading # — becomes its title in the list, the filename when you export it, and the subject when you mail it. No separate title field to keep in sync.
Email has a size limit. Sending opens a draft in your mail app with the note as plain Markdown. Mail clients cap how much text fits in that handoff, so notes past roughly two thousand characters may arrive cut short — export the .md and attach it instead when a note is long.
Folders. The Folder field above files the note you arrived from. Type Trips, or Trips/2026 for a subfolder — naming one is all it takes to make it. In Notes itself, drag a note onto a folder in the list, or onto a step of the trail, to move it the same way.
The trash. Deleting a note in Notes asks nothing: it goes to Trash, a folder like any other. It stays out of sight until you turn it on here, under Trash. Empty the trash takes those notes out for good, so export first anything you may want back.
On this device only. Notes live in this browser's storage — nothing is uploaded anywhere. That also means clearing site data wipes them, and they won't follow you to another browser or phone. Export all gives you a single Markdown file worth keeping somewhere safe.
Notes link to each other — type [[ in a note and pick another, or write [[Name]], [[Name|shown text]] or [[Name#Heading]]. Click a link to open it, in the preview or the formatted view — in plain text, ⌘-click it (Ctrl on Windows); Markdown links to a note, like [text](Name.md), open the same way; a link to a note that doesn't exist yet offers to start it. Renaming a note offers to update the links to it, and the graph button draws every note, its links and its folder — by default the folder open in the list (everything at the top level), or all notes, or just the open note and its neighbours; click a note to open it, or a folder to draw just that folder. Show backlinks under each note, above, adds a list under the note of the notes that point at it and of those that name it without a link, each one a click from becoming a link.
Four ways to see a note. The view button switches between live, edit, split and preview; formatting runs through the wand button beside it, one Markdown mark at a time.
Tab indents inside a note — to move on to the next control instead, press Escape and then Tab, or use Shift-Tab.
Focus mode hides everything but the page — the switch on the right of the ribbon toggles it, and Escape backs out.
